Day Four

Finally, a decent breakfast at Lou's (a belgian waffle with fresh fruit and granola)!

Walked through St. Patrick's Cathedral

and back through Rockefeller Center...

Not sure how we kept finding the right place at the right time, but walking down fifth avenue Sunday morning, we walked into preparations for the Gay Pride Parade. It was so fun to see the floats up close, away from the crowds, and to see all of the behind the scenes action. And of course, to get a few photo op's!

Then it was back to LaGuardia, and home sweet home. It was an amazing trip. Thanks mom!!

Day Three

We woke up bright and early and took the subway to Brooklyn for the Flea Market. We were there a little early, so we took a little walk and stumbled into a beautiful farmer's market...

When we got back, the market was still being set up, but they allowed us in....
and it was well worth the two train rides in took to get there

A little limeade was needed for sustenance.
After a brief change of clothes,
We headed out from our hotel a little early for the matinee we were seeing, and happened
upon a multicultural parade on 6th avenue...

And then we headed over to the Jacob's Theatre to see God of Carnage-
the cast consisted of James Gandolfini, Marcia Gay Harden, Jeff Daniels and Hope Davis.
It was awesome!

After that, we climbed into a little pedi-cab and headed to Chelsea to see some stained glass in an antique store. While we were looking for the address, we ran right into another flea market, this one being held on the main floor of a parking garage (It's open every Saturday at 24th between 6th and 7th). It was as though the clouds parted in the heavens for me!

We walked a bit more and found a frozen yogurt shop called BerryWild (23rd and 5th). I had a banana and carribean coffee twist and I still haven't stopped talking about how good it was!

We took a cab back to Soho and looked for things to bring home for my kids. My daughter asked specifically for "articles of clothing" - so we headed to Lucky Kid... and got stuck there in a sunshower after we finally stopped carrying around our umbrellas.

Dinner at Mercer Kitchen, which would've been a bit too trendy for me if we hadn't sat in the upstairs bar area.

Called it a night.

Day Two

Breakfast at Lindy's Diner (two thumbs down on the blueberry pancakes)
a walk down 6th avenue to Kinokuniya, where I looked at graphic design books
Past Radio City...

And over to Anthropologie

They were hosting an exhibit of Vera Scarves!

Then we made our way over to M + J Trimming...

And then to Tinsel Trading...

There were tons of little button/ribbon/trimmings shops in the area...

Had a little sushi for lunch
Walked over to Central Park (took a carriage ride)
walked through Bergdorf's for a bit....
and headed over to MoMa (which just happened to be free from 6-8 pm on Friday night)

They had this great exhibit (Waste Not) that featured the entire contents of the artist Song Dong's mother's house from Beijing....

It was raining, but we sat on the covered patio outside the 5th floor cafe
and had dinner there overlooking the Museum's courtyard

The rain subsided, and as we walked back to our hotel, we were greeted
with the most amazing cotton candy clouds...

Day One

oops! Sorry for the delay. I went to Minnesota for the weekend to see my family for the 4th of July! We now return to the regularly scheduled New York itinerary....

Flew into LaGuardia
Headed to our Hotel
Got on the E subway to Spring St. in SoHo
Visited Purl Patchwork.
I had no idea the store was so tiny! It was busy, too, so people were kind of climbing over each other to get around. I decided it would be easier to buy some fabric online, but I'm glad I stopped by. There was a super cute little tart shop next door!

Walked and walked and walked....
Bought a dress (on sale of course!) from the amazing Anna Sui boutique
Had brick oven pizza at a cute little restaurant named Zoe
Found Pearl River Mart
and Muji

Headed back to the hotel, changed....
Went for a little walk in Times Square.
Got some ice cream and watched some break dancing in the street

Called it an early night, as I'm an old lady and can't stay out too late!

Sounds like a math problem, but it's not

So we checked in to our hotel in Midtown Manhattan around 2:00 pm on Thursday. We threw our luggage in our room and headed out on the subway. What was my first stop?

The first person to guess my first destination (and if you know me at all, it's not a very tricky answer) wins a prize!

***That was Quick! Sherri's answer (Purl Soho) was my very first stop in NYC****

hi honeys, I'm home!

I just got home last night from an amazing trip to Manhattan. We jammed so much into each minute that I thought I'd break it down for you by day... so let me sort through all these photos and walk you through my trip. Back Later to tell you all about it.

No. Sleep. Till.....

Brooklyn! And Soho. And anywhere else I want to wander for four whole days!

My momma and I are headed to New York this weekend for a bit of a girls trip. My mom gets to New York quite often, so for this trip she's content to let me choose the itinerary, and will happily accompany me to fabric shops, Japanese Bookstores, and Flea Markets while we're there. I've mapped out all of my must-visit sites on a Google Map....

Have you been to New York recently? Are there any spots I shouldn't miss?

Show and Tell

I think I have too many photos on my computer. Ten thousand super-high-res images makes for some slow loading time. Which is the reason I haven't been sharing many pictures lately - it just takes forever to get them off of my camera. But I have lots of little pretties to show you, so I'm just going to suck it up and upload them.

Today's Show and Tell: 3 little skirts (with matching headbands) for 3 little girls. These turned out so, so cute. I used a modified version of this free pattern from Oliver + S.

Another One For My Wish List

Maybe watching all of those episodes of Mad Men on Netflix has gone to my head, but the fashions of the 1960's are calling me.
Now, granted - a floral swimcap is certainly not something I need, but something I'd very much like to have:

And I'm positive that Betty Draper wouldn't even consider hitting the pool without one.
(available at Popina - but please save one for me!)

Introducing The Frooch

The best part? I just unclip the clip-ons, and my top is totally washable. Hooray for the frooch!

That's *Madame* Ambassador to You!

I'm going to an Official Ambassador of Lovely Event this evening: 60 Minutes of Lovely.... I can't wait to see what that entails! I will be wearing my official Lovely dog tags that Miss Amy Krause-Rosenthal sent me herself a few months back (along with some Bazooka Gum and the encouragement to "make something pretty").

(pardon the tight shot, but if I backed it out a little further, this would become a cleavage picture, and I'm not exactly sure that's what you want from me. It's really hard to take a picture of a necklace on yourself. Which reminds me that I was bored in the car yesterday and started taking pictures of the rain on the windshield, which eventually lead to me taking pictures of myself in the vanity mirror, which is when I noticed my neighbor walking his dog right towards my car and presumbly thinking I'm a very strange bird indeed for sitting in my car at the end of the block (which happens to be my son's bus stop, I'll have you know - which is why I was sitting there in the rain in the car after all) taking pictures of myself in the mirror. But I digress....

(in a reprise performance here on the blog, I give you the video that started it all...)

not just the cream in my coffee

it's pretty much my mantra...

Have a lovely day, buttercups!
