A couple of weeks ago, I found out that I was chosen to participate in "Old School" - an exhibition at Uppercase Gallery in Calgary.
"The 'Old School' theme will celebrate the aesthetics of twentieth century education through an art exhibition and companion book, as well as curated objects. It is inspired by vintage flash cards, old desks, biology class, science fairs, crayons, card catalogs, textbooks, class photos, teachers, yearbooks, lunchboxes, gym class, maps, lockers, report cards, film strips, recess, spelling, chalk... and the list goes on!"
Playing with this theme is SO up my alley. I thought it would be really fun to create some mixed media pieces for the show. But this morning, I saw that the list of participants was up on the Uppercase Gallery website. ohshit ohshit ohshit. I am so honored and excited and terrified to be keeping company with the likes of Lisa Congdon and Jennifer Judd-McGee and Renee Garner "(and the list goes on...)". They are, like, real artists whereas I just like to make stuff. oh shit oh shit oh shit.
I need a pep talk.

Oh come now, they just like to make stuff too!
You can do it!
Oh what a FABULOUS opportunity!!! Please, they other artist put their pants on one leg at a time, just like you!
I can't wait to see what you come up with! I know it will be great!
Think of Wayne's World...and the groveling bit...You ARE Worthy!!! You are!!
(if you don't have a copy of the Artist's Way by Julia Cameron, then remember this is your inner critic being the naysayer). Tell her to go on vacation and have fun; you're happily busy for a bit. ;-)
what's that saying...You're too cool for school! And you ARE cool, and talented so don't let any little voices in your head try to convince you otherwise! Drawn them out with itunes...and get to work because I can't wait to see what you create!
{congrats!!!!}
Wow-wow-wow! Congratulations. :)
Wow! I feel so honored to be lumped in with you, Lisa Congdon and Jennifer Judd McGee.
Thank you for the lovely complement of being a "real artist" :)
And, ummm, I'm terrified just like you are!
(last night I told my husband about this post and how good it made me feel, thank you!)
They asked you to participate - so obviously they think you are worthy!
You are often far too humble about your many talents and artistic sensibilities: This is a great opportunity for a worthy inventor of old school goodness. oxo El
